The Edge

"The Edge", a tense adventure thriller released in 1997, is one of my favorite Anthony Hopkins films. While "The Edge" may not be as popular as "Silence of the Lambs" or other Hopkin's flicks, This strikes me as one of his deeper roles. Hopkin's portrays an intellectual business man named Charles who is stranded in the Alaskan wilderness with his wife's secret lover played by Alec Baldwin.

Hopkin's and Baldwin play an intellectual chess game with that secret knowledge all the while fighting for survival in their flight from a ravenous grizzly bear. This is an inspiring movie simply because of Hopkin's characters choice to take the moral high road. I have seen it several times and will probably see it again.

Best in Show

Best in Show is one of a string of mocumentaries created by Christopher Guest and friends. You may have seen"This is Spinal Tap" or possibly "Waiting for Guffman", both hilarious documentary spoofs. Best in Show hit theaters in 2000 and stars Christopher Guest, Eugene Levy, Parker Posey and Fred Willard to name a few. This film takes a comic look at the world of big time dog shows. The characters in this comedy include an uptight yuppie couple and their neurotic weirmeraimer, a back woods hunter and his faithful bloodhound and a quirky couple and their feisty terrier.

I love the way this mocumentary never steps out of character. Never once does it let on that it is supposed to be a comedy. I have even know some unexpected viewers that were fooled in the first few minutes. But the hilarious situations and the characters zany reactions will have you laughing until you cry. I highly recommend this movie and Christopher Guest's other well done spoofs as well.

Adam 12 series review

Adam 12 is a campy, enjoyable police drama that originally aired from Sept. 21, 1968 to Aug. 30, 1975 on NBC. The fact that it held out for 7 seasons means that there are 175 episodes available and Netflix offers all of these as "watch instantly" episodes.

Adam 12 is about the day to day adventures of 2 L.A. PD officers, season veteran Pete Malloy(Martin Milner) and rookie Jim Reed(Kent McCord). The series was produced by Jack Web of "Dragnet" fame. So, as you might expect this drama attempts to capture the action and suspense of police life in L.A. while maintaining a wholesome family friendly tone.

I love to sit down at the end of the day and pull up a 30 minute episode of Adam 12 to help me unwind and relax. It is a great escape from todays over the top violence and adult themes in modern TV dramas. I have watched all of season 1 and most of season 2 along with our young daughters who also enjoy it.
